What’s in a Name?

What’s My Name… we have all heard that phrase dozens – no, make that hundreds of times since our arrival. Every one of these precious children here run up to us, grab our hands and ask us to say their name. They know ours and it is important that we know theirs.  They share hugs and clasp our hands with pure delight because they know we flew half way across the world to see them. They know Jesus and they love us as sisters and brothers in Christ.

My unfamiliarity with the language and cadence of their speech has hounded my memory of their names; but when I am able to say it, they clap with joy at being known – at being seen – at being someone special.  The light in their eyes is forever seared on my heart when we call their name.  I had never really given it much thought about being known… until I came here.  Sure – there have been times when someone remembers my name or who I am, but it has always been more of an ego boost on the most superficial of levels.

Being with these children has given me a fresh appreciation of how God knows our name no matter how many faces there are.  He knows the ins and outs of each one of us and His word reminds us we are precious to Him.  These kids here… they get it.
