Elderly Care

But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God” – I Timothy 5:4
As we reflect upon the impact that organizations such as have had on caring for children around the world, we celebrate with grateful hearts – and we should! But the harsh reality is that children are not the only marginalized people group that walk among us, both here and abroad. In the recent past it has become painfully obvious to us that we have not done all that we could do for another group of people; the elderly. These are mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, people who have reared children and passed on values and life lessons while often times living in brutal conditions. Should they not be honored in their later years in a manner consistent with decent humanity?
We believe the answer is YES! Recent estimates suggest there will be more than 100 million Indians aged 60 or older by 2013 in a country that has only 4,000 old-age homes. This is a sobering statistic, and one that could prove debilitating if we let it. That is why we are overjoyed to announce the new Agape Old Age Home located on the CEM Campus in Dowlaiswaram, India. This home will provide food, shelter, clothing, medical care and genuine friendship to elderly people that have been abandoned by their families, or left to fend for themselves due to a myriad of challenging circumstances. We are eternally grateful for our friends and partners that have helped make this dream a reality.
